I’m glad it was Porsche that broke their own record.

Didn't  an F1 car go faster than that a couple of years ago?

I don’t think an F1 car has run at the Nordsch l ei fe in a long time. An F2 car did it in 6:30 in the 1980's.

You should have at least posted this at 9:19am. Repost this at 9:19pm as penance.

To think that the GT2 RS production record is almost a minute and a half ‘slower’ is crazy. I just ran the two videos side by side, and before the GT2 RS hits the Hocheichen strait(?) - a mere 35 seconds into the lap - the 919 EVO would already be out of sight and through the Flugplatz.

I hope someone does a few overlay videos of the laps.

That was an exhibition lap that didn’t even beat Bellof’s time....F1 cars are too low and not suited for many parts of the track. BMW engineers ‘estimated’ speed for many sections of the track (the car had slowed down for bumps and photo ops) to come up with an estimate of 5:15 if the track were flat and it was run full-out.

Edit with link:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Nordschleife_lap_times_(racing) #2007_BMW_F1_demonstration_laps

The official lap time released by BMW Sauber was declared to be 8:34, thus slower than the 8:17 [225] of the pole-setting Porsche.

Road & Track magazine reported Heidfeld’s lap was a 5:57 or 5:58 (for the Nordschleife only), breaking the track’s six-minute barrier for the first time in history. [228] However, their times were done by measuring the speed in some corners, and then calculating a lap time, and not timing a full lap. Heidfeld has since expressed his desire to repeat the experience with less restriction, as well as for a participation in the 24h race

Wow. An estimated time is kinda lame. Thanks for the info.

Im partial to the LMP1 cars so it's cool that they hold the record.
